(Hong
Kong, November 9, 2005) Hong Kong Cable Television Limited
(CABLE TV) announced today that it has been appointed the
official broadcaster of the Torino 2006 XX Winter Olympic
Games for Hong Kong.
For the first time in Hong Kong's TV history, CABLE TV will
telecast the 2006 Torino XX Winter Olympic Games LIVE and
EXCLUSIVELY from Italy during the entire Games period from
February 10 to 26, 2006. Hong Kong viewers will be able to
watch this top-notch international event on the CABLE Sports
Channel (Ch. 62).
CABLE
Sports Channel will tailor-make a daily afternoon programme
featuring live coverage of the Games. In addition, CABLE News
Channel will follow the progress and results of each event
with reports in the sports session of its hour-by-hour CABLE
News report.
Describing
Torino 2006 XX Winter Olympic Games as one of the most important
programme acquisitions and a major breakthrough for CABLE
TV, Director of Sports, International and Promotion, CABLE
TV, Musetta Wu, said the station would strive to give sports
viewers a new experience in watching the Winter Olympic Games,
offering unprecedented depth and width of coverage of the
event.
As
the carrier of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games, the
Asian Games in 1998, 2002 and 2006, the 10th National Games
in China, the 2005 East-Asian Games in Macau and now the first-ever
telecast of Winter Olympic Games, CABLE TV has clearly established
its position as Hong Kong's leading broadcaster of top sporting
events and its responsiveness to the demand of local sports
fans, Ms Wu said.
The
17-day, 15-event Torino 2006 XX Winter Olympic Games will
be held in the north-west Italy city in February, 2006. The
world will certainly be watching closely the performance of
China, which topped Asian countries in the last game in Salt
Lake City 2002 with two gold, two silver and four bronze medals
in Figure Skating and Speed Skating.
Heilongjiang's
Yang Yang (A) stole the show at Salt Lake City when she became
the first gold medalist of China at the Winter Games, clinching
two golds respectively in 500m and 1000m Women Short Track
Speed Skating. Teammates Yang Yang (S) and Wang Chunlu also
excelled in the Women Short Track Speed Skating events by
grabbing bronze medals. In other events, Li Jiajun won a silver
in 1500m Men Short Track Speed Skating while the Shen Xue/Zhao
Hongbo team clinched a bronze in pairs mixed Figure Skating.
