(Hong
Kong, August 1, 2005) CABLE TV today kicked off the 2005/06
Season of Soccer Fever which will bring to soccer fans in
Hong Kong nearly 800 EXCLUSIVE matches, most of them LIVE,
from the 2006 FIFA World CupTM and the four top
European soccer leagues.
At a launching
ceremony, CABLE TV announced that with the renewal of exclusive
broadcasting rights for the Italian Serie A for Hong Kong,
CABLE TV will continue to offer exclusively on its sports
platform this season all 4 top European soccer leagues --
the English Premier League, Spanish Primera Liga, Italian
Serie A and German Bundesliga.
On the World Cup
front, Mr. Samuel Tsang, Project Manager of CABLE TV's 2006
FIFA World Cup Organising Committee promised soccer fans that
CABLE TV's coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup will be even
better than the highly successful "CABLE TV World Cup
Carnival" in 2002.
Mr. Ronald Chiu,
Vice President, News & Sports, added, "We will be
offering unprecedented depth and width on the coverage of
the tournament, and will continue to provide multi-channel
and multi-angle coverage of all 64 LIVE matches. In addition,
new TV technology will be introduced to enhance the excitement
and enjoyment of viewers."
On the four top
European Soccer Leagues, Mr. Chiu said, "We will spare
no effort in securing the exclusive broadcasting right of
the most important and most popular soccer leagues for Hong
Kong's soccer fans. With the renewal of exclusive broadcasting
rights of Italian Serie A, soccer fans will continue to get
non-stop actions of all four top European soccer leagues on
the CABLE TV sports platform this season," he said.
Mr. Chiu noted that CABLE TV has been broadcasting the Italian
Serie A exclusively since the 1996/97 season. The league has
been established as one of the most important programmes on
the CABLE soccer platform. The 2005/06 season will kick-off
on August 27. CABLE Sports Channel (Ch. 62) will continue
to carry 3 matches on Saturdays and Sundays each week, with
a total of nearly 120 games a season, supplemented by weekly
highlight programmes on CABLE Super Soccer Channel. (Ch. 61)
Inclusive of the
four major European Soccer Leagues, the "World Cup Qualifying
Round" and warm-up matches, CABLE TV will be broadcasting
close to 800 games on its Super Soccer (ch. 61), Sports (Ch.
62), EPL (Ch. 63) and Soccer Betting Channel (Ch. 64) this
season.
The soccer season
on CABLE TV will be officially re-opened at 2:00a.m. on August
6 on Sports Channel, with the kick-off game of defending champion
of German Bundesliga, Bayern Munich Vs Monchengladbach.
Other early season
highlights include:
* Season re-open
of the English Premier League and Spanish Primera Liga on
August 13 and 27 respectively.
* Warm-up matches
of England vs. Denmark, Netherlands vs. Germany and Rep. of
Ireland vs. Italy
* 2006 World Cup
Qualifying matches Latvia vs Russia on August 17.

artiste Ms. Karen Mok appeared as special guests to announce
the exclusive broadcast of Italian Serie A on CABLE TV. The
highlight of the event was a "Whistle Blowing" Ceremony
signifying the official kick-off of the new soccer season
on CABLE TV.
