(November 11, Hong
Kong) Hong Kong Cable Television Limited (CABLE TV) and Asia Television
Limited (ATV) have reached an agreement for selected matches and highlights
of the Spanish La Liga to be broadcast on ATV, the two television broadcasters
announced in a joint statement today.
CABLE TV is the exclusive television broadcast rights holder of the Spanish
La Liga tournament in Hong Kong and carries on average five matches live
each week on its Super Soccer Channel.
Under the agreement, CABLE TV will supply weekly highlights of the Spanish
La Liga to ATV and the terrestrial broadcaster can carry 10 matches live
in each football season.
Describing the agreement as win-win for both broadcasters, CABLE TV's
Vice President, News and Sports, Mr. Ronald Chiu, said the broadcasting
agreement would help promote the tournament in Hong Kong. "It is a good
example to show how the industry could work together for the interests
of general viewers," he added.
Senior Vice President of News and Public Affairs, ATV, Mr. Peter Kwan,
said the agreement could enhance the reach of one of the world's most
prestigious soccer tournaments in Hong Kong. "We are pleased to bring
the tournament to viewers who otherwise would not have access to the matches.
