CABLE TV Acquires Exclusive Rights
to Carry
Spanish Soccer League Matches
(Hong
Kong, September 7, 2003) Hong Kong Cable Television Limited (CABLE
TV) announced
today that it had secured the right to carry the Spanish Primera Liga
exclusively and to launch Hong Kong’s first dedicated soccer channel to
accommodate the wide array of top notch soccer action on its platform.
With
the acquisition of the Spanish Primera Liga, all the four major European
soccer leagues, inclusive of the English Premier League, the Italian Serie
A and the German Bundesliga, are now shown exclusively on the CABLE TV
platform.
The
all soccer channel, Super Soccer Channel, will be launched as a basic
channel on channel 61 starting from 6:00 am on Saturday (September 13). It
will be the first all soccer channel in Hong Kong, providing live and
taped coverage of top soccer action, inclusive of Spanish Primera Liga,
German Bundesliga, qualifying matches of Euro 2004, FIFA Women’s World
Cup, FIFA World Youth Championship, UEFA Cup, English FA Cup and J-League
with a total of over 200 matches a season. The channel will be
supplemented by highlight programmes of major European soccer leagues as
well as magazine type programmes of the soccer world.
The
channel will show four live and two taped matches of the Spanish league
each week. On top of that, two live matches and a taped match of German
Bundesliga will be offered during weekends. In mid-week, the channel will
feature highlight programmes of major European soccer tournaments with
goals and full results.
The
Sports channel (Channel no. 6) will continue to carry the Italian Serie A
and other top-notch sports events.
Mr.
Ronald Chiu, CABLE TV’s Vice President, News & Sports, said the
acquisition of the prestigious Le Liga had enabled the station to offer
all the major European soccer leagues on its platform.
“More
than 10 live matches will be broadcast each weekend, catering to the needs
of fans of different European soccer leagues. I am sure the new soccer
channel will be welcome by our viewers and serve to further consolidate
our position the leading sports broadcaster in Hong Kong,” he added.
