CABLE TV ANNOUNCES UNPRECEDENT MULTI-CHANNEL COVERAGE
OF 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP

(Hong Kong, March 6, 2002)         CABLE TV, the official broadcaster of the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Hong Kong, will kick off coverage of the world's important football tournament on Monday (March 11), culminating to a month-long non-stop World Cup carnival when the Finals are held in Japan and Korea this summer.

Announcing coverage plans of the forthcoming World Cup, CABLE TV disclosed today (Wednesday) that the station will move production of the Finals tournament to the International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kowloon Bay where a month-long carnival will be held to enable fans to watch all 64 matches of the Finals live and participate in games.

"Production of the World Cup Finals will no longer be held inside conventional television studio, we wish to share the excitement and funs of this important tournament with the people of Hong Kong by moving the production outside where over 500 fans can be accommodated at any one time, " Manager of CABLE TV's 2002 FIFA World Cup Preparatory Committee, Mr. Samuel Tsang, said in a press conference today.

Spanning a floor area of over 20,000 square feet, the main hall of the International Trademart will be converted to a giant studio, equipped with video walls as well as over 100 television sets. On top of viewing the matches together with CABLE TV's commentators, fans will be able to participate in games and win cash prizes and gifts worth over a million dollars.

To give viewers a totally fresh experience of watching the World Cup on television, Mr. Tsang also said for the first time in Hong Kong, CABLE TV will provide multi-angle coverage of the 64 matches on two dedicated channels. One channel will show the official feed of the matches while the other channel will show CABLE TV's four specially arranged multi-angle feeds from cameras installed in match venues, enabling viewers to watch the matches from every corner of the field. For viewers on CABLE TV's digital service, the feeds will be shown on four separate channels, allowing viewers even more freedom to choose the angle from which they want to watch the matches.

"The 2002 FIFA World Cup is the first to be held in the New Millenium and also the first to be held in Asia. We are proud to be appointed official broadcaster of the event in Hong Kong and we wish to give viewers a totally new World Cup experience, by making the most out of the multi-channel nature of our service," he added.

Starting from Monday (March 11), CABLE TV will launch a package of programmes to usher in the month-long Finals beginning from May 31. They include a series of travelogue programmes to cities in Japan and Korea, featuring the venues where matches will be held. Special production teams will follow preparation of the China National Team, which is qualified to compete in the Finals for the first time. Other programmes include official documentaries of previous World Cup Finals as well as preparation of other Finals teams. (See attached for programme details.)

Between May 31 and June 30, the World Cup Finals matches will be carried on CABLE TV's channels 06 and 13, with English soundtrack available on NICAM service.
