CABLE TV to carry BBC Knowledge

(October 15, 2009 - Hong Kong) CABLE TV announced today that it will carry BBC Knowledge on its basic platform as Channel 49, commencing 6 a.m., October 29, 2009.

BBC Knowledge will be the first of four BBC-branded thematic channels to be launched on the CABLE TV platform under a new distribution deal with BBC Worldwide Channels Asia. The other three channels - BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies - will be launched before the end of 2009.

Showcasing the best of the BBC’s award-winning factual and non-fiction entertainment programming, BBC Knowledge provides five key programming strands:

* The World delves into and explores new cultures and places around the world.
* Science & Technology explores new frontiers, from space to motoring.
* People explores aspects of the human body and mind.
* The Past brings historical events, places and people back to life.
* Business offers invaluable advice to help stay on top of today’s challenging business world.

Viewers of BBC Knowledge will be able to enjoy high-quality factual entertainment with captivating insights into places and cultures, history, business, the human mind and body, and science and technology; including the latest series of Top Gear, the BAFTA and multi-NTA and Emmy award-winning BBC motoring entertainment programme, watched by over 150 million households in more than 100 countries.

The channel will also premiere first and exclusively the new season of the award-winning and highly acclaimed Secret Millionaire (series 3), with a new batch of wealthy benefactors seeking to change the lives of others for the better, and American Future – A History by Simon Schama, in which historian Simon Schama explores how the US presidential election of 2008 represented American society at a point of great change in its history.
