CABLE News Media Booth at Hong Kong Exchanges Trading Hall commences operation to bring
Hong Kong's financial news programmes to higher standard

(Hong Kong - January 16, 2006) The new CABLE News Media Booth at the Hong Kong Exchanges Trading Hall commenced operation today (Monday), enabling Cable News to bring to viewers up-to-the-minute financial news and information practically from the financial heart of the territory.

The new facility, which overlooks the Trading Hall, was officially opened early this morning before the opening of trading by i-CABLE Communications Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Stephen T.H. Ng.

The occasion was also marked by the visit of a group of honourable guests led by HKEx Chairman Charles Lee, including Financial Secretary, Mr. Henry Tang; Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr. Frederick Ma; SFC Chairman Martin Wheatley; and HKEx Chief Executive, Mr. Paul Chow. The group was received by Mr. Ng and Mr. Ronald Chiu, Executive Director of i-CABLE News Limited, who briefed them on the operation of the new facility.

Commenting on the inauguration of the CABLE News Media Booth, Mr. Ng said the new facility is another building bloc that reinforces CABLE TV's position as the strongest and most comprehensive news and information provider in Hong Kong.

"It is yet another step in our on-going efforts to further enhance the leadership status of our financial news platform with the new look Cable Finance & Info Channel (Ch. 8) that focuses on the most up-to-date financial information during trading hours, with analyses that decode the trends of the markets, and supplemented by documentaries and current affairs programmes during non-trading hours," he said.

On the operation of the Media Booth, Mr. Ronald Chiu said the Booth would become our de facto second studio in the heart of the Central financial district, in addition to our existing Central Broadcast Centre at Wheelock House, further strengthening the live coverage capability of our financial news reporting.

A new programme, appropriately named Live from The Stock Exchange, will be launched upon the inauguration of the new facility.

"With live cross-over between our studio and the Media Booth, we will be able to bring in more prominent figures of the business sector for live interviews and discussions on our shows, thus providing viewers and investors with more immediate analysis of the market.

"As the Booth commands a panoramic view of the Trading Hall, it provides an enhance outlook for our shows, giving a greater sense of immediacy and a stronger sense of atmosphere of the trading activities to viewers and investors, bringing the standard of Hong Kong's financial news programmes to a new higher level," Mr. Chiu said.

The new Media Booth sprang right into action by providing live coverage of the entire HKEx Renovated Trading Hall Opening Ceremony from 8:45 his morning for Cable Finance & Info Channel (Ch. 8), featuring live interviews of Financial Secretary, Mr. Henry Tang, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr. Frederick Ma and other market experts.
