Hong Kong Cable to Carry China Travel & Economic Channel

(Hong Kong - May 16, 2002)         Hong Kong Cable Television Limited and China Travel & Economic Channel (Hong Kong) Company Limited jointly announced that China Travel & Economic Channel will be carried on CABLE TV's digital Channel No. 23 from 1:00pm today onwards.

China Travel & Economic Channel is a new documentary channel specialising on financial and economic programmes as well as travelogues of Mainland China. The programmes will be transmitted in Cantonese with traditional Chinese subtitle. It provides travelogues on various scenic spots of China and its natural inheritance as well as in-depth features examining the most updated economic information and investment prospects across different provinces, aimed at building up a stronger communication network between Hong Kong and China.

The launching ceremony was hosted by Mr. Stephen T.H. Ng, Chairman, President and CEO of Hong Kong Cable and Mr Sun Fang, President of China Travel & Economic Channel (Hong Kong) Company Limited. A toasting ceremony was also held with more than 60 guests from different China provinces who came to Hong Kong to celebrate the launch of the new channel.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the launch of the channel, Hong Kong Cable's Chairman, President and CEO, Mr. Stephen T.H. Ng, said with the increasingly closer tie between the Mainland and Hong Kong, up-to-date information on all aspects about China information is essential to Hong Kong people. "Thus, travelogues and investment programmes offered by China Travel & Economic Channel can meet their quests for such knowledge. They will only enhance the programming choices for CABLE TV's viewers in Hong Kong, but will also become very valuable additions to our documentary and information programming platform," he added.
