CABLE TV appointed Host Broadcaster
(Hong Kong, March 21, 2001) CABLE TV has been appointed host broadcaster for the most important rugby tournament for the region, Hong Kong Sevens, for three years, beginning from this year.
The 3-year carriage and production agreement was signed yesterday by Mr. John Molloy, Chairman of Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, and Ms. Musetta Wu, Programming and Promotion Controller, CABLE TV.
“CABLE TV is delighted to be appointed host broadcaster for the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens. Following our successful production of the World Rank Snooker, China Open last December and the 2002 World Cup Qualifier, Asian Preliminary Round, Group 3 Matches (1st leg) in Hong Kong earlier this month, this again is a signature event, recognising the production capability and expertise of CABLE TV in the International Sports arena,” Ms. Wu said.
“This is an exciting new partnership between CABLE TV and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union.” said Mr. John Molloy. “We feel the Hong Kong Sevens will be an exciting addition to CABLE TV’ s sports programming platform. Our Rugby Union promotes the game as one for all and CABLE TV’ s extensive coverage will certainly help bring this highly entertaining rugby spectacle to an even bigger audience and thereby undoubtedly ensuring that rugby’ s popularity will increase in this region.” Mr. Molloy added.
All 42 matches of Hong Kong Sevens will be shown on Sports 2 channel LIVE and exclusively from March 30 to April 1. The event will be also transmitted via satellite to other participating countries through which rugby enthusiasts can follow the performance of their national team.
