New i-CABLE Venture Offers Double Benefits to Advertisers

Clients placing advertisements on CABLE TV beginning from next year will have the additional benefits of promoting their products and services in the web following the launch of a new venture by i-CABLE Communications Limited.

This was announced today by i-CABLE's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stephen Ng, in a ceremony to launch Global Media In Force Limited (GlobalMIF), a new member of the i-CABLE Group.

ˇ§Advertisers and advertising agents can reap double benefits when they place advertisements with GlobalMIF which has been appointed as the Exclusive Sales Distributor for CABLE TV's commercial airtime from January 1, 2001 onwards. Through the establishment of GlobalMIF, we shall offer to advertisers and advertising agents a unique opportunity to fully ride on the advantages brought by the convergence of television broadcasting and the Internet,ˇ¨ Mr. Ng added.

Describing the latest venture as a new chapter in the local advertising industry, Mr. Ng said i-CABLE is in a unique position to offer this innovative advertising service to its business partners given its leading position in the television and Internet service markets.

He further said another important goal for the new venture is to set up an e-Marketing Infrastructure to the benefits of both advertisers and consumers within and without Hong Kong.

The Chief Operating Officer of GlobalMIF, Mr. Samuel Tsang, said the new venture is established to tackle an inherit challenge of television advertising, i.e., the lack of catalogue value. GlobalMIF will set up an e-Marketing Infrastructure, offering clients advertising on CABLE TV an additional avenue for their promotion campaigns. ˇ§For the consumers, they can actively seek for the latest consumer products and promotions on our specially designed website at anytime they like,ˇ¨ he added.

He said the first e-Marketing site to be set up by GlobalMIF is which will offer a unique opportunity to clients to supplement their advertisements on CABLE TV. ˇ§On top of featuring the most up to date consumer promotions of products and services, bonus and discount vouchers will also be posted to boost the sales for advertisers, expanding their business opportunities,ˇ¨ he said.

To allow easy access to this innovative service, consumers and interested parties could log on to the website by using a well-publicised number ˇV the CABLE TV airtime sales service number ˇV

Given the first mover advantage of the i-CABLE Group of companies, Mr. Tsang is confident that will become a leading e-Marketplace for Smart Shoppers in Hong Kong on quality products and services.

To add further value to advertisers and advertising agents, Mr. Tsang said they have already lined up with a number of Applications Service Providers (ASPs) to offer business applications and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system should they so require.

Mr. Tsang added that the company will set out to introduce this innovative advertising concept to neighbouring cable operators with the aim of forming a regional network benefiting consumers in this part of the world.

Effective from January 1, 2001, GlobalMIF will also become the exclusive distributor of CABLE TV programmes in Hong Kong and overseas.

CABLE TV is operated by i-CABLE Communications Limited. i-CABLE is the only fully integrated communications company in Hong Kong that owns and operates the territory's second largest telecommunications network; creates its own multimedia content; as well as offering pay television and broadband Internet access and content services concurrently.

i-CABLE is listed both in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock quote: 1097) and NASDAQ in the US (symbol: ICAB). It is a 79.4% subsidiary of The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, which is also listed in Hong Kong (stock quote: 0004).
